Looking for a community service adventure for next summer?  Africa School Assistance Project (ASAP) builds schools in rural Tanzanian villages and each summer leads groups of volunteers to work on the schools. ASAP is currently seeking volunteers for school building trips in June 2017. We welcome adults and children alike—anyone with an adventurous spirit and a big heart!

In 2017 we will be working in a rural area outside of Arusha, Tanzania to build, expand and enhance school facilities to create access to quality pre-primary through secondary schools for the children of the area.

Volunteers will live in a beautiful, secure campsite in the foothills of Mt. Kilimanjaro.  The area is lush and the altitude keeps the temperatures in a comfortable range.  Our fees include every expense so nothing is left to pay for once on-site.  The campsite is fully staffed and volunteers are served three delicious cooked meals per day and 100% bottled water.  Camping toilets and warm water for bathing is provided.  Volunteers will spend their days working on building the schools, and will spend their evenings under some of the most stunning stars visible from anywhere on earth!

“I feel so lucky to have traveled to Africa with ASAP, and to be a part of the amazing work they are doing. There is no better feeling than holding one of the primary school students hands, looking into their smiling faces, and knowing that your work is quite literally changing their life.”

We are pleased to offer 1 scholarship to a deserving student.  Please submit the 2017 Scholarship Application by March 1, 2017 if you are interested.  Please email us at if you questions about your eligibility.

High School Student Trip to Tanzania: June 9-26, 2017

ASAP is offering a newly-designed 18-day community service adventure to Tanzania that includes a week of volunteering to build a school in a rural village and a week of rich cultural immersion focused on sustainable development in East Africa.  We will explore the six pillars of sustainable development including education, human rights, conservation, health, food security and economic systems.  And, we will finish the two-week trip with a safari into one of Tanzania’s most iconic game parks!  Students will be chaperoned at a minimum of a 5:1 and will receive 50 hours of community service.  The trip cost is $5,800 (*this is subject to minor change).

KDS Certificate: Sustainable Development in East Africa

Offered as part of the new Kent Summer School Program, this unique course will combine an academic examination of the six central pillars of sustainable development (education, human rights, conservation, health, food security, and economic systems) with the trip to Tanzania in June (see above).  Taken together, these components can earn students summer school class credit from Kent Denver School and a Certificate of Study In Sustainable Development for East Africa.  This certificate/class credit is open to students from any Denver high school and all students may earn official credit for their college application/transcript.  (Note: KDS students, you can earn either class credit OR 50 community service hours, but not both. Non- KDS students should check with their school registrar.)

The trip will accommodate a maximum of 14 volunteers.  For more information, please email or call 303-881-3081.

Friends & Family Trip (June 11- 17)

ASAP volunteers for this trip are families with children, groups of friends or single adults, all of whom want to experience the beauty of Africa while building a legacy of education for hundreds of children.  And, Tanzania is the perfect place to add on a safari in some of the best wild animal preserves in the world! Volunteers for the Family & Friends Volunteer Trip are required to pay their own travel expenses, including a $2,000 fee for the week in the village to cover local transportation, supported camping, three meals a day and bottled water.

The trip will accommodate a maximum of 14 volunteers.  For more information, please email or call 303-881-3081.
