What we do

The Africa School Assistance Project empowers and creates opportunities for Tanzanians, particularly girls, by removing obstacles to quality education and learning.

Our model

We partner with motivated rural communities in Tanzania to comprehensively develop rural school systems. Together we build healthy and safe schools, improve the quality of education, and provide a safe haven for girls to pursue their studies, offering them a chance at a quality education from pre-primary through secondary level and beyond.

With deep respect for local culture and to ensure sustainability, all of our work is co-invested and facilitated in collaboration with our partner communities and the Tanzanian government. In fact, this is so integral to our approach that our partner communities first referred to our model using the Swahili phrase “bega kwa bega,” which means “shoulder to shoulder.”

Our programs

Our holistic approach creates lasting change by addressing the root challenges and broad spectrum of issues that impact opportunities for education. Through a whole-child approach, we provide every partner school with a customized suite of the following programs.

School Building

Educational Resources

Teacher Support

Health Outreach

Girls' Education
