Lieko Earle, PhD

Lieko Earle is a Senior Researcher in the Buildings and Thermal Sciences Center at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Colorado, where she has worked since 2009 on all aspects of improving the energy efficiency of residential building systems. Lieko was a Peace Corps volunteer in Tanzania from 1997 to 2000, where she taught Physics at Minaki Secondary School and served as the Women-In-Development (WID) coordinator for the Peace Corps Tanzania program. In this role, she organized numerous workshops directed at empowering girls and encouraging them to stay in school. As a woman in science Lieko has always been keenly interested in issues related to girls and their opportunities in society and believes that women are a key gatekeeper to sustainability and long-term economic prosperity in developing communities. Lieko holds an Sc.B. in Physics from Brown University and a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Colorado.
